Book Review | Chapter 10 Summary – The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt

Chapter 10 argues that the harms of social media are not accidental—they are built into the system. Platforms are designed to capture attention using features like likes, notifications, and infinite scroll, because their business model depends on keeping users engaged as long as possible.

Haidt explains that tech companies are unlikely to change on their own, since reducing these addictive features would hurt profits. This creates what he calls a “race to the bottom,” where companies compete to exploit users’ psychological vulnerabilities.

As a result, he argues that government intervention is necessary. Like past regulations in other industries, laws can change incentives so platforms become safer for children.

He suggests actions such as limiting harmful design features, strengthening protections for youth, and creating policies that support more independence and real-world play for children.

If your child is absent on Fun Lunch day, their lunch will be kept in the office until 3:00 p.m. for pick-up. After that time, it will be discarded to meet health and safety guidelines and due to limited storage space.
