Hello BHS Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all have a lovely long weekend. Our first week back to school was full! Students have been busy learning their routines, building friendships, and stretching their brains. As a school, we have been reading the book, “My Heart Fills With Happiness”, by Monique Gray Smith. Students have reflected on what fills their hearts with happiness, and there are definitely common themes. Our students love their families! Thank you for providing the love needed to feel safe and ready to learn. As always, if there is anything that you would like us to know to better help your child, please reach out to their teacher or to the office at any time.
Alberta Ed Literacy and Numeracy Screening – Grades 1-5
Universal screeners are assessments that measure a learner’s proficiency in different skills. In Alberta, teachers administer mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Grade 6 students complete the Provincial Achievement Tests in May/June. Teachers will begin administering these assessments on September 14. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns about the assessments.
Video Surveillance
Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .
The users of this information are the principal and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns about the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information.
Volunteer Registration and Annual Forms
We love having volunteers at Beddington Heights School and will really need you when filed trips get rolling! All volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account.
Please help us out by completing the following required forms that are also available through the SchoolEngage tab in your MyCBE account:
• Demographic Verification - 2026-27
• Citizenship Information Update - 2026-27 (only if there has been a citizenship change)
• Annual Authorization - 2026-27
Detailed instructions on how to access these forms can be found on the MyCBE - Online Forms & School Registration and the SchoolEngage Support page of the Technical Support for Students & Parents website.
