Dear Beddington Heights Families,

This week will be a busy one as we engage students in discussions about Truth and Reconciliation, host the Scholastic Book Fair, and end with Meet the Teacher on Thursday. More details are provided below. A reminder that there is no school for students on Friday (non-instructional day) and Monday (school closed for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).

Orange Shirt Day/ Truth and Reconciliation Week

On September 30th, schools will be closed as we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In anticipation of this, we will observe Orange Shirt Day on September 26th. This important day encourages us to reflect on the legacy and lasting effects of the residential school system in Canada. The orange shirt symbolizes the experiences of Indigenous children who attended these schools and serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by their families. It also highlights the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.

Throughout the week, we will hold age-appropriate activities and discussions in our classrooms to help students better understand the importance of this day.

Meet the Teacher | Thursday Night

Join us on Thursday evening any time between 6-7pm for our annual Meet the Teacher event. Families are welcome to tour the school and visit their child's classroom. Teachers will share information about the upcoming year and be available for any questions. However, since it's still early in the school year, and students are just now settling into their routines, this is not the time to discuss your child's progress.

In addition to classroom visits, the book fair will be open in the Learning Commons, and computers will be available for families to complete required forms such as demographic verification, volunteer registration and consents. We look forward to seeing as many families as possible! Please refer to the attached document for information we usually share in a large group setting, which won't be possible this year due to ongoing gym floor issues. Meet the Teacher Information

Book Fair

Mark your calendars as the fun and excitement of a Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! We look forward to students enjoying the School book fair during the week of September 23-26. We would like to also welcome parents to visit our book fair at Meet the Teacher night on September 26, 2024 from 6:00-7:00pm!

Students will have two chances to visit the book fair during the week. The first visit will be to make a wish list and the second will be to buy something. The book fair has a variety of Items and students can get something for as little as a dollar or two. Profits from the book fair is then used to buy new books for our school. I do recommend sending money to school with students if you are able. We are expecting a high turnout for Meet the teacher night and we are not open very long, so any purchases that can be made in advance are a bonus.

Morning Drop Off

Supervision at our school begins at 7:45 am. Please aim to have students arrive by 7:50 am so they can enter with their class when the transition bell rings at 7:58 am. If you plan to arrive right at 8:00 am, students may end up being late, which can disrupt the start of their day and affect both them and their classmates.

Additionally, please make sure to use the crosswalks and set a good example for our students by practicing safe behavior. Not following these safety guidelines increases the risk of someone getting seriously injured on their way to school. These are all our children, and we want them to arrive and leave school safely.
