Dear Beddington Heights Families,
I hope our students have had a great first week back and are finding their rhythm with new routines. Next week we will be welcoming Calgary Minor Soccer as they are offering a free residency for our students in Phys Ed Class!
I’d like to share a few additional updates below.
Student Pick Up Reminders
At the end of the school day, our K–2 students are handed directly to their caregivers. For students in Grades 3–5, we ask families to establish a clear plan for where to meet or how they will get home. If those plans don’t work out—such as if a parent is delayed or unable to arrive—students should come to the main office for assistance.
Fun Lunch | McDonald’s
On September 25 we will have our first Fun Lunch of the school year from McDonalds. You can order a Fun Lunch for your child at healthyhunger.ca. Thank you for your support!
Popcorn Sales | Healthy Hunger starting September 18
Again this year, the Parent Council will be selling popcorn for students which will be distributed each Thursday. All proceeds will support BHS families in need during the Winter Break/Christmas season. Popcorn orders will be made through Healthy Hunger, so students won’t need to bring money to school. Families can also pre-order for multiple weeks if they prefer.
To order, please visit HealthyHunger.ca. The ordering deadline each week is the Saturday before each Thursday.
Ensuring Student Safety During Drop-Off Times
Our priority is the safety of all students and parents—including your children—as they arrive at/ leave school. I wanted to remind families of expected safe practices for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
To maintain a safe and efficient drop-off process, please adhere to the following guidelines:
· Use the Hug and Go Areas Properly (7:45-8:05am): Pull into the zone, drop off your child, and leave promptly. Do not park, remain in your car, or wait with your child in this area, as it blocks others from safely dropping off their children.
· Avoid the Bus Zone: Do not park or drop off students in the designated bus zone in front of the school. This area is reserved for CBE and childcare buses and must remain clear at all times.
· Always Use Crosswalks: Crossing the road outside of marked crosswalks is unsafe and sets a poor example for students. Jaywalking creates significant safety challenges, especially as students begin navigating traffic on their own.
· Do Not Stop in the Middle of the Road: Stopping in traffic to drop off your child disrupts the flow of vehicles and creates a hazardous situation for everyone.
· Respect Crosswalk Visibility Rules: Do not park or stop within 5 meters of a crosswalk. This blocks the view of patrollers and pedestrians, making crossing unsafe.
· Avoid Parking on Corners: Parking on street corners obstructs traffic flow and violates traffic regulations.
· Staff Parking Lot is Off-Limits: The staff parking lot is reserved exclusively for CBE staff and cannot be used for drop-offs, pick ups or parking.
· Plan Ahead: Arrive by 7:45 a.m. when supervision begins. This allows adequate time for a smooth drop-off and for your child to settle in before school starts. Arriving at 8:00 a.m. often results in rushing, tardiness, and classroom disruptions.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe. Your support in following these guidelines is crucial to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Book Fair | Volunteers Needed
We have our first Book Fair coming up the week of September 22, and are looking for volunteers. If you are on our security cleared volunteer list, please look for an email from our volunteer coordinator if you are able to help out!
Valuables at School
Families, we kindly ask that students not bring valuables to school. Items such as electronics, jewelry, or special keepsakes can easily be misplaced, lost, taken, or broken. Please note the school cannot assume responsibility for these items.
If you have any questions or need assistance as we begin the school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610.
