Dear Beddington Heights Families, I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break. As we embark on a new school year, I’m thrilled to welcome all our students and their families back to Beddington Heights School. We are dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where your child can excel academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe that strong partnerships with families are key to student success, and we encourage open communication and active involvement. Our committed teachers and staff are here to support your child every step of the way, and we deeply value your input and participation in our school community. As we get ready to kick off the 2024-25 school year, there are a few important updates I’d like to share with you: School Start-up Information Thursday, August 29th will be the first day for students. A copy of our school calendar can be found here – 24-25 BHS Calendar (Constantly Updated) and here – Yearly Calendar Bell Times
Grade 1-6 Students Grade 1 – 6 families can expect an email from their child’s teacher(s) by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 27th welcoming students to a new school year, as well as explaining the details of the first few days including:
The creation of class lists is a thoughtful and deliberate process undertaken by our staff to ensure the best learning environment for every child. This work began last June and involves balancing various factors, including gender, learning needs, complexities, and previous positive student connections. We understand that this can sometimes lead to disappointment, as some students may hope to be in a specific class. Your support as a parent in guiding your child through this conversation is greatly appreciated. Developing the ability to handle challenges and setbacks is a crucial part of early growth, and these resiliency skills will benefit them in the long run. Kindergarten Students Kindergarten students will begin with a staggered entry and an early in-person meet the teacher opportunity. More detailed information surrounding this was sent in June, and will be sent again tomorrow. If you do not have this information by end of day tomorrow, please contact Ms. Cumming at clcumming@cbe.ab.ca . Structures & Routines As we kick off the new school year, there's a lot of excitement in the air, but we also recognize that the transition from a flexible summer schedule to the structure of a full school day can be challenging for some students. Teachers will be sharing the various routines and structures they've put in place in the classroom to support students' regulation and learning. We also encourage parents to establish healthy routines at home, including consistent bedtimes, morning habits, reading, family time, physical activity, and screen time management. Throughout the year, we’ll continue to provide resources to help support these areas.
Thank you for trusting us to be a part of your child’s educational journey. We’re looking forward to an amazing school year ahead, full of growth, discovery, and unforgettable moments. If you have any questions or need assistance as we begin the school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610. Take care, Steve Ross Principal, Beddington Heights School Key Dates:
