I hope everyone had a nice week and enjoyed the school dance last night. A big thank you to our dedicated Parent Council for all their work in making this event a huge success for our school community!

I have a couple additional items to highlight this week:

Parking on Monday

Please do not park in front of the school on Monday morning as we will have three coach buses attempting to park there in order to leave for Drumheller with all of our grade 3/4 students at 8 am sharp.

Bike to School Day | June 7

Next Friday is Bike to School Day. Students are invited to ride their bikes to school (with an approved helmet). Calgary Police will be joining us to celebrate bike safety with our school community.

  • Bike Parking: Starting at 7:45 AM, students can park their bikes in the gym to keep them safe for the day.
  • Bike Safety Presentation: At 10:00 AM, CPS Officers will visit all classrooms for a brief bike safety presentation.
  • Bike Activities: At 10:45 AM, students with a bike and helmet will head outside for activities like obstacle courses and races.
  • Cheering and Interaction: At 11:15 AM, students without bikes will go outside to enjoy fresh air, cheer on their classmates, interact with CPS officers, and see some of their equipment.
  • Stations remain open: At 11:50 AM, students can leave for the day. However, CPS will keep the stations open until 12:30 PM for students wishing to continue the activities with their families.

*Families are responsible for supporting students in getting to and from school safely. All students will receive a small gift from CPS.

**Please note, students must have a bike and an approved helmet to participate in bike-related activities. Helmets must meet ANSI, Snell, or CSA standards.

June is Pride Month

The Calgary Board of Education strives to ensure that all our schools are safe and caring places for all students and staff. As a public school system, we welcome and celebrate students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs.

At Beddington Heights School, we have honoured and recognized our unique school community throughout the school year facilitating learning opportunities around Orange Shirt Day, Secret Path Week, Black History Month, Culture Day, Truth and Reconciliation Day, Pink Shirt Day along with many others.

June is Pride Month Internationally, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. The CBE reaffirms its commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff. At Beddington Heights School, we will recognize this occasion by facilitating discussions in classes about inclusivity and the significance of the month.

We acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. However, classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions under the Education Act.

I want to wish everyone a fantastic weekend. If you need any assistance, feel free to reach out—I'm here to help.

Take care,

Steve Ross

Principal, Beddington Heights School

Popcorn Sales

This is a friendly reminder that Parent Council sells popcorn weekly to support families in need during the holiday season. Last year, we raised $2000, all going to BHS families! Popcorn is sold in homerooms on Tuesday mornings and then delivered by Thursday lunch. Each bag costs $2.50. Your support makes a meaningful impact in our local community!

Library Books

The time has come when we begin collecting library books to ensure they are all returned prior to the end of June. Please send any outstanding library books back to the school with your child.
