Principal's Weekly Update | Dec 1, 2023

Today was Jersey day at BHS. It was nice to see so many different teams represented, both professional and personal ones. Today also marked our second cycle of Follow Your Passion Fridays. Make sure to ask your child what they chose!

I have a few additional items to share with you this week:

The Science of Reading | CBE Digital Decodable Library

The science of reading explores how kids learn to read. Decodable books are a part of this, designed to help children by focusing on sounding out words using letter sounds. These books follow a step-by-step approach, making it easier for kids to build their reading skills. By using decodable books, parents can support their children in learning to read through a systematic and phonics-based method, setting a strong foundation for future reading success.

The CBE has developed a digital decodable library that parents can access to support home reading with students. This library will continue to be expanded and is a great resource to support early reading skills with your children that will complement what students are learning at school.

Winter Concert

We are very excited about our upcoming fall themed Winter Concert. Mrs. Van Es and the Kindergarten-Grade 2 students and teachers have been working tirelessly to prepare this show for you. For the maximum enjoyment of all spectators, we ask that you respect the following concert etiquette points:

·       Please make every effort to arrive on time.

·       Late arrivals, may enter the gym through the interior doors by the Learning Commons.

·       If you need to exit the gym during the show, please try to wait until a break between song performances/ numbers.

·       When returning to the gym, please enter through the back. Please do not cut between Mrs. Van Es and the performers.

·       Please limit talking and other noise during the performance.

·       Turn cell phones off or put them on vibrate.

·       If you must take an important phone call, please conduct conversations outside of the gym.

·       If filming, use the designated areas on the side of the gym for photography.

·       Please supervise siblings and young children during the performance as this can take away from the performers who have worked extremely hard. The gym mats at the back are off limits during the performance.

·       Enjoy the show. The students have put many hours of work into it.

Please see the bottom of this message for additional information related to the Winter Concert that was shared previously.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610.

Take care,

Steve Ross

Winter Concert | December 7

We will host our Winter Concert (which will have a Fall theme) on Thursday, December 7th. We have two performances (1:15pm and 6:00pm). Please join us for one (or both) of these celebrations if able. All are welcome! This concert will showcase our Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students.

To prepare:

  • Grades K/1/2 need to be in their homerooms by 5:45pm on Thursday in preparation for the concert.
  • Doors will also open for parents to come in at 1pm for the daytime performance, and at 5:45 for the evening performance.
  • Students can wear whatever they feel comfortable performing in
  • Students will be picked up from their homeroom at the end of the show. All K-2 students will be a part of the final performance, so there will not be an opportunity to leave early

A reminder that our Grades 3-6 students will host a spring concert in April, and will also have a Sound Kreations Dance Performance on Dec. 15th at 10:30am. Parents are invited to attend this performance.
