Principal's Weekly Update | Jan 19, 2024

I trust everyone had a wonderful week despite the consistently chilly weather. While the upcoming week is expected to be slightly warmer, students are reminded to dress warmly as we plan to resume outdoor recess activities.

I have two items to highlight this week:

2024-25 School Year Registration

If you have a child entering Kindergarten this upcoming year, registration has opened for the 23-24 school year. More information can be found here. If your child is returning to Beddington Heights next year, nothing is required at this time as they will be automatically registered for next school year.

Fun Lunch | Wok Box (Deadline to order is tomorrow (Saturday) by Midnight)

Have your children enjoy a warm healthy lunch from Wok Box next Thursday. Each lunch will be delivered 10 minutes prior to your child’s lunch time. All proceeds go back into the school through Parent’s Council. Visit Healthyhunger.ca to order.

We have also added the option to donate a fun lunch, and all donations will go directly towards purchasing fun lunches for those who may not otherwise have this opportunity.

Take care,

Steve Ross

Nation’s Vision

Nation's Vision is an in-school eyecare clinic that provides comprehensive eye exams directly onsite for school children across Calgary.  Exams are free-of-charge. If your child requires glasses, Nation's Vision provides financial assistance for our families and will notify you if your child needs glasses by phone and email. A large selection of glasses is available on-site at the school, so you can stop by at the end of the day to help your child select glasses if required. Please complete the consent form sent home with your child this week and have them return it to the school. Only children with completed consent forms, are eligible for this program. The deadline to return these consent forms is January 31st if you would like your child to access this service.

Blue Days Due to the current weather conditions, when temperatures are below -20 degrees Celsius including wind chill (“Blue Days”), students will not go outside on these exceptionally cold days. On "Blue Days," our doors open at 7:45 am, allowing students to enter 15 minutes early for a smooth transition into the classroom. Please avoid dropping off students before this time to prevent them from waiting outside in the cold prior to the school opening at 7:45. If temperatures warm up to -19 degrees Celsius and above, students will have outdoor recess, so ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the cold. If you need assistance with warm clothing for your child, please contact Ms. Austin at naaustin@cbe.ab.ca.
