Principal's Weekly Update | Jan 26, 2024
I hope everyone has enjoyed the reprieve from the depths of winter this past week. I know our students really enjoyed getting outside again this week!
I have a few items to highlight this week:
2024-25 Instructional Calendar
The 2024-25 Instructional Calendar has been released and can be found here.
January Report Cards
By the end of January, your child’s report card will be available to view in your MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning. Teachers may also share learning progress through parent/teacher conferences, your child’s daily work and assignments, and other ongoing communication with you.
What to Expect in Your Child’s Report Card
CBE began implementing the new Alberta Education Curriculum:
- Fall 2022 start:
- Mathematics (K-3)
- English Language Arts and Literature (K-3)
- Physical Education and Wellness (K-6)
- Fall 2023 start:
- Mathematics (4-6)
- English Language Arts and Literature (4-6)
- French Language Arts and Literature (K-3)
- Science (K-3)
In the new curriculum, some things students learn may be new or may have previously been taught in higher grades. Students could be missing foundational pieces from previous grades, and their report card indicators might not be as high as before. This is expected when there is a new curriculum. It might take more than one school year to build these foundational skills. Even though each grade has its own curriculum, many ideas come up again each year, helping students to build on what they already know and do well.
Teachers continue to make learning interesting and inspiring and are adapting to students' needs during this transition. As always, if you have questions about your child's learning, please reach out to their teacher.
February 1 is World Hijab Day
The World Hijab Day Organization surrounds the importance of promoting and protecting the rights of all individuals, including their right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief. World Hijab Day is an annual event that takes place on February 1st to raise awareness about the hijab and dismantle stereotypes associated with Muslim women who choose to wear it. The event aims to foster personal freedom of religious expression and understanding, promote diversity, and encourage dialogue among people of all faiths and backgrounds. Take care,

Nation’s Vision
Nation's Vision is an in-school eyecare clinic that provides comprehensive eye exams directly onsite for school children across Calgary. Exams are free-of-charge. If your child requires glasses, Nation's Vision provides financial assistance for our families and will notify you if your child needs glasses by phone and email. A large selection of glasses is available on-site at the school, so you can stop by at the end of the day to help your child select glasses if required. Please complete the consent form sent home with your child this week and have them return it to the school. Only children with completed consent forms, are eligible for this program. The deadline to return these consent forms is January 31st if you would like your child to access this service.
2024-25 School Year Registration
If you have a child entering Kindergarten this upcoming year, registration has opened for the 24-25 school year. More information can be found here. If your child is returning to Beddington Heights next year, nothing is required at this time as they will be automatically registered for next school year.
