Principal's Weekly Update | Nov 3, 2023

I hope everyone who celebrated Halloween had a fun and safe evening this past Tuesday! Today marked the first Follow Your Passion Friday. Students had the opportunity to pick an area of interest and engage with other students who share the same passion. Don't forget to ask your child about their experience and how much they enjoyed it!

Our school is selling BHS branded clothing this year through our Parent’s Council. Please see the note at the bottom of this message on how to order. Students or adults can order sweats ($34-$35), hoodies ($36-48), or t-shirts ($18).

I have a few additional items to share with you this week:

Staffing Updates

We are excited to announce the addition of two new lunch supervisors to our Beddington Heights School team.

Beginning Monday, Mrs. Stefanie Steele will be returning to our lunchroom team full time. We are extremely excited to have her back on our team. On November 15th, we will be welcoming Dua Zymeri as well. Dua comes to us from Falconridge school where she also held a Lunch Supervisor role. We are very happy to have these two amazing people join our team!

Beddington Heights Parent Council Fundraiser

Parent Council has organized two fundraisers for the winter season: Growing Smiles & Purdy Chocolates. Please click the links for more information. Growing Smiles ends on November 23rd and will be delivered on December 7th. Purdy’s will end on December 2 with delivery of goods happening the week of December 11th. Please support our Parent Council as this money comes back to support your children at school!

Book Fair | Message from Mrs. Mills

During the week of November 20-24, 2023 students will be invited to enjoy book fair. This is an opportunity for students to buy books and small items to enjoy. The proceeds go directly to help our school buy new recourses. Last year the money went helped our school buy new home reading books since they were desperately needed.

Students will have a chance to preview the book fair and, a second chance with which to buy something. Even a few dollars can get students something.  Book fair will also be open during Parent Teacher Interviews so please pop by! See you in the library for book fair!

Christmas Hampers

With the winter break quickly approaching, we know that the holidays can sometimes be a difficult time for families. To help support Beddington Heights families, community organizations, and members will sometimes provide donations to the school. These donations may take the form of gift cards, small gifts, or hampers. If your family needs support, please contact Ms. Austin by email naaustin@cbe.ab.ca. She will then try to connect you with some source of support. In your email, please provide the following information:

  • Name of child
  • Child’s homeroom teacher
  • Specific Area of need (food, clothing, toys, and/or access to activities etc.)

Lost and Found

We will be donating all items remaining in the lost and found to good will on November 24th (following Parent Teacher Interviews). Please come by and retrieve any of your child’s items before this date.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610.

Take care,

Steve Ross

Calgary Firefighters Toy Association | Annual Children’s Christmas Party

The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association is having its 55th Annual Children’s Christmas Party. The purpose of the event is to support families in our communities who, due to economic or personal circumstances, may not be able to provide an experience for their families. The event will be held on December 17th, 2023 at the Telus Convention Centre from 9am-5pm. The location is on the LRT route. Families will be able to choose the time slot they attend. Time slots will be removed once they fill up. You will be able to attend for 60-90 minutes.

If you are interested in this experience, please contact Ms. Austin by email at naaustin@cbe.ab.ca. I will then forward your email address to the Calgary Firefighter Toy Association. They will send you a link to an online application that you will need to complete and submit by November 13th. Spots do fill up quickly. If you are successful in your application, you will then receive an invitation with your time slot no later than December 10th.

Fun Lunch Housekeeping

Any orders not picked up on the day of the Fun Lunch due to student absenteeism will be held for one day, whenever possible. If they are not collected the next day, they will be disposed of. In cases where Fun Lunch falls on a week with no school on Friday, uncollected orders will be disposed of after school on Thursday. If your child is unable to attend Fun Lunch due to illness, please contact the office to make special arrangements, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

School Swag

The Parent Council has organized a chance for students and adults to buy school-branded clothing this year. You can place your order for BHS school merchandise until Friday, November 10th using this link. All orders are expected to be available for pickup in early December. If you have any questions about sizing, samples are available at the office.

Jacket Racket

As the weather turns colder and thoughts turn to winter, there may be some families without winter jackets for their kids. Jacket Racket is a non-profit organization that works to provide students with winter coats. If you are unable to provide a winter coat for your child, and you need assistance in this area, please email Ms. Austin by November 17th. In your email please include the following information:

·       Your name

·       Name of child

·       Grade

·       Homeroom

·       Size of jacket required (Kids Sizes run from 2-14)

·       Do you require any other winter clothing or boots? If so, what sizes?
