Principal's Weekly Update | Oct 27, 2023
I hope everyone enjoyed the Halloween Dance put on by Parent Council last evening. It was great to see so many families join us for the event. I want to send a big thank you to our amazing Parent Council for organizing this!
I wanted to share a quick reminder that students do require two pairs of footwear for school. With the addition of snow this week, we have noticed many students who do not have a pair of indoor footwear for school. This is important to ensure our school stays safe and clean!
I have a few additional items to share with you this week:
Halloween | Black and Orange Day
On Tuesday, October 31st, we invite students to wear orange and black (instead of costumes) and join us in celebrating the day through Halloween-themed learning activities!
We kindly request that you refrain from sending any treats to school for distribution to other students. Additionally, we would appreciate it if, in the days following Halloween, you could limit the amount of treats sent to school. An excess of sugary items tends to have a negative impact on the overall learning environment.
School Swag
The Parent Council has organized a chance for students and adults to buy school-branded clothing this year. You can place your order for BHS school merchandise until Friday, November 10th using this link. All orders are expected to be available for pickup in early December. If you have any questions about sizing, samples are available at the office.
Missing Items
If your child happens to bring home items that don't belong to them, could you please send them back to school, as they might have been accidentally mixed up or taken without permission. We will work to ensure they get back to the right student. We recently had a pair of new winter boots go missing in grade 2, and we would love to re-unite them with their owner!
Jacket Racket
As the weather turns colder and thoughts turn to winter, there may be some families without winter jackets for their kids. Jacket Racket is a non-profit organization that works to provide students with winter coats. If you are unable to provide a winter coat for your child, and you need assistance in this area, please email Ms. Austin by November 17th. In your email please include the following information:
· Your name
· Name of child
· Grade
· Homeroom
· Size of jacket required (Kids Sizes run from 2-14)
· Do you require any other winter clothing or boots? If so, what sizes?
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610.
Take care,
Steve Ross

Calgary Firefighters Toy Association | Annual Children’s Christmas Party
The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association is having its 55th Annual Children’s Christmas Party. The purpose of the event is to support families in our communities who, due to economic or personal circumstances, may not be able to provide an experience for their families. The event will be held on December 17th, 2023 at the Telus Convention Centre from 9am-5pm. The location is on the LRT route. Families will be able to choose the time slot they attend. Time slots will be removed once they fill up. You will be able to attend for 60-90 minutes.
If you are interested in this experience, please contact Ms. Austin by email at naaustin@cbe.ab.ca. I will then forward your email address to the Calgary Firefighter Toy Association. They will send you a link to an online application that you will need to complete and submit by November 13th. Spots do fill up quickly. If you are successful in your application, you will then receive an invitation with your time slot no later than December 10th.
Fun Lunch Housekeeping
Any orders not picked up on the day of the Fun Lunch due to student absenteeism will be held for one day, whenever possible. If they are not collected the next day, they will be disposed of. In cases where Fun Lunch falls on a week with no school on Friday, uncollected orders will be disposed of after school on Thursday. If your child is unable to attend Fun Lunch due to illness, please contact the office to make special arrangements, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
