Principal's Weekly Update | September 1, 2023

I want to thank everyone for being patient with us as we modified our first day start-up routine at the last moments due to wildfire smoke. It was a bit unconventional for a start-up, but thanks to your support, all students were able to make it to their teachers safely and successfully. It has been amazing having students back in the building, and we are looking forward to a great year ahead!

I have a few additional items to share with you:

The Sneetches – Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Beddington Heights Parent Council is sponsoring tickets for 30 students to attend Dr. Seuss and the Sneetches at Jack Singer Concert Hall. This musical concert performed by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will take place on Sunday, October 1st at 3:00pm. Follow the link to gather more information about the event. https://calgaryphil.com/events/the-sneetches-by-dr-seuss-2023-10-01-300-pm

Tickets and transportation (chartered bus) are free. Pick up and drop off will be at Beddington Heights School. Ms. Austin and a few parent volunteers will provide supervision. Those students who are interested in participating can pick up a permission form from the office, starting on Tuesday after the long weekend. Forms will be available until Tuesday, September 13th.  If more than thirty students are interested, we will do a draw to determine which students will attend. All successful applicants will be informed by Friday, September 15th.

Hug and Go Zones

Please note that Bermuda Drive and Bermuda Road on the school side of the streets are “Hug and Go” zones from the lamppost (marked with a Hug and Go sign) around the corner and up to the bus zone. If you would like to stay and watch your child until they enter the school, please park somewhere outside of this zone to allow other families to quickly and safely drop their children off for school.

Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy

Beddington Heights School has an away for the day cell phone policy. If students choose to bring their cell phones to school, the expectation will be for them to remain in their back packs on silent or turned off for the duration of the school day. Should you need to connect with your child during the school day, please contact the main office and we will ensure the message gets to your child. It is always our recommendation that students do not bring valuables like technology to school as we do not accept any responsibility for loss or damage of students’ personal devices. We do offer to store student phones in the office for the day to ensure they are safely stored if desired.

Student Code of Conduct

As a school, it is our responsibility to ensure a positive learning environment for all students. It is our responsibility to ensure that staff and students are provided with a caring, welcoming, respectful, and safe learning environment. The Student Code of Conduct outlines these principles and identifies the roles and expectations related to student conduct.

If you have any questions or need assistance as we begin the school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6610.

Take care,

Steve Ross
